What materials/species were used in this project/item?
This Library is constructed out of Knotty Alder. The customer wanted a large area for storing of books as well as a feeling of an old library that still fit into the overall feeling of the house which was a Large Rustic Lodge. Also in the library homeowner wanted to add the warmth of a fireplace. The surround is raised panel knotty alder that has file drawers included along with TV mount
Describe, in detail, the project/item’s construction.
Exposed ends of cabinets are built of ¾” thick plywood or panelized depending on the area of the kitchen. The partitions of the cabinets are made of ½” thick white melamine and the drawers are 5/8 white melamine that have been glued and doweled together. All the box parts for the cabinets were cut out on a Komo VR 508 CNC machine. All the face frames are dadoed into the cabinet box so that we eliminate any need for nails through the face frame to hold the face frame to the cabinet box.
What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry?
The owners requested that the library ladder not be able to roll continuously and that the sconce lights be placed in line with the ladder rail so that it would break up the solid line that would have otherwise gone across the cabinets.
List any items that were outsourced (not produced by you or your shop).
The drawer boxes, and granite surround out sourced and wall paneling were completed by others.
