Project Description – The client desired to achieve an open, airy feel of intersecting colors and planes, without looking piecey or mish-mashed. We successfully achieved this by blocking colors into areas and concealing all shelving supports. Each linear element was visually lengthened or heightened as much as possible – the door frames and shelf edges were kept slim, the lines of ceiling trim and shelf edge follow through each area without interruption. The client wanted contemporary frameless cabinetry without being cold so we added the stained birch and warm oiled butcher block top to contrast the clean lines of the white cabinetry and work surfaces. Unusual Aspects – The kitchen has limited depth, so we had to be creative in the way we combined the lower work height peninsula and the raised eating bar. Panels in the knee space tuck up under the custom walnut top, and the legs on both sides are mitered down to the floor for a continuous, beautiful line. Why I like the CMA – Being a member of the CMA has given us a forum within which we can share ideas, teach and learn among peers, and develop and grow as leaders, and as a shop as a whole. Not to mention we get to have a little fun from time to time, too! |
