2013 Wood Diamond Award

Category – Library Finish Over $25K

Project Description – Client requested everything to be made on site including finishing. All panels and moldings where cut on table saw. Three units where made in our warehouse. Cabinets cut on Thermwood CNC Machine.

Unusual Aspects – Graceful Smoke Room
Smoke Room/ Library room was one of our most invigorating projects we had done.  Our customer wanted a room where they could exhibit their literature as well as an entertainment room for gentlemen to gather around the fireplace enjoy a nice cigar and a tasteful drink.
Customer’s custom home was build two years ago and was designed using traditional antique finishes and furniture. We used the same finish in a smoke room to blend in with the rest of the house. Maple wood was used for all paneling and furniture. Furniture was manufactured in the warehouse and then brought to site unfinished where it was installed. The rest of the paneling was made on site to properly match and fit the installed cabinets.  The finishing was also done on site. In order to give the room more complete and finished look, the ceiling and all the doors where paneled and stained matching the rest of the room.
Part of the client’s wish list was to combine a nice fireplace, a unit for drinks, an entertainment unit for TV, and open shelves for books and decorative items. Room also could be used as a reading escape where family member can sit, enjoy the fire and read a novel.
This room has an outside door which serves a great purpose of connecting it to the backyard and gives the ability to smoke outside.
On the east wall, custom wall bar unit was build. This wall originally had a closet which helped to keep the overall depth of the cabinets shallow and give more room for sitting. To protect the wood a granite was placed on the bottom cabinet to have an area for mixing drinks. Decorative arch on the top was custom carved by customer’s specification.  Similar style arch was used for the TV unit which is located on the south side. This would be an area to keep the books. Right side had roll out drawers for DVDs and center base cabinets build with mesh to give a proper ventilation and access for TV components. Ceiling speakers were all connected to this unit to give a stereo effect while watching TV or listening to the music.
In order to give this room a more antique look, maple wood was stained into light walnut color and after black glaze was added to make it more old style. The room turned out to have various functions: one is a place where customer’s friends can share a cigar and another – a relaxing room to sit and enjoy the morning espresso beside warm fireplace.
And at last a finale of timeless satisfaction
