Symphony Kitchens (Toronto, ON)

2013 Wood Diamond Award

Category – Showroom Design

Project Description – All cabinets where cut with Thermwood CNC Machine.
We also used Fraval Smart Edgebander
Exterior carving was done by hand on MDF.
It is very difficult to cut on MDF but because its much soft the carving was done faster then it would be on solid wood.

Unusual Aspects – The design idea came from a style called Art Nouveau. It’s a very interesting style that gives movement using organic line motifs. Starting from a clean curved line and expanding them into more interesting lines to the pantry unit storage. To emphasize the design clear glass was used. The decorative hood is another focal point which we curved out with small diamond shape cutouts. All the parts and details of this kitchen where carved by hand and applied to other materials. The idea is to make this showpiece and show customers that their kitchen could be a clean line modern look however, at the same time be a piece of art. The decorative posts on each side of the pot drawers have pull outs spice racks serving as decorative as well as functional pieces. This showpiece was painted in gray tones with sanded finish which add more interest to the look and feel of the unit. Center points of decorative hood and posts where filled with small plastic round balls that where painted a lighter sparkly grey tone which also adds to a different look.
