Savante Wine Cellars (Denver, CO)

Project Description – Our racking is produced with standard woodworking equipment, including drill presses, tenon machinery.mortise routers ,steam bending chamber and moulds. The greatest challenge was in the design aspect and creating a room that looked like a European wine tasting cafe’ . This was done by creating the center hutch to look like a separate piece of furniture that may have been added to an original and allowing the brick work to hold some prominence.
Unusual Aspects – The walnut hutch was designed to look like an individual freestanding piece that may have been added at a later time. The White Oak racking ,which is mirrored on the left and right of the hutch, includes horizontal racking with dowel bottle supports, steam bent curved corners, laser in numbers under bottle necks and at each diamond bin for collection management and custom veneer columns. The White Oak is unfinished to allow a natural patina to occur.
The center walnut hutch includes contrasting veneer accents ,16 bottle display row lowers, an upper decanting area, bleached walnut T&G back paneling, curved pull out drawers and heavy crown detail. The finish is a non toxic butcher block oil to insure no VOCs in the room. Mortise and tenon joinery was used to connect the horizontal racks into the sides. Dowel rods are machined into each front and back piece and allows the bottle to safely sit in its place without damaging the body or neck labels.
