The Artisan Shop (Loveland, CO)

2014 Wood Diamond Award

Main Category: Kitchen
Sub Category: Best Overall
Dollar Amount: Over $25,000

Briefly describe your business and the type of products manufactured.
The Artisan Shop is a custom woodworking company located in Loveland, Colorado. We produce European frameless cabinetry, emphasizing the rustic mountain styles of Colorado and the current contemporary styles of the metropolitan Denver region. Our projects are mostly throughout the Front Range and Mountains of Colorado and occasionally in other regions of the country. The Artisan Shop also manufactures American face frame and inset face frame cabinetry and millwork. An emphasis on progressive design, quality, service and product value has been the key to our success.

What materials/species were used in this project/item?
This Rocky Mountain inspired kitchen is constructed of Rustic Knotty Alder distressed and glazed in two complementing painted finishes. The frameless European box construction is Roseburg hardrock maple melamine. The butcher block is laminated from solid North American Hard Maple.

Describe, in detail, the project/item’s construction.
This spacious kitchen is the result of an extensive farmhouse remodel just outside Boulder, Colorado. The European frameless cabinet boxes appear far from contemporary as they are end capped with a variety of raised panel and furniture style accents. Integrated Loox low voltage lighting was supplied by Hafele. All functional hardware was provided by the Blum Company and Hafele. This kitchen design completed by Beth Joseph of Rave Interiors along with Stacee Cover of The Artisan Shop.

What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry?
The room was extended to contain an oversized island including multiple work centers. A dine-in table with turned legs and a granite top is integrated into the island design adjacent to a 48″ x 48″ x 6″ thick solid maple butcher block. From the butcher block, the island takes a 90 degree turn to include a high output gas cooktop with downdraft, a spacious landing zone and a second prep sink. The end of the island is capped with a display cabinet with art glass, wood-framed doors, adjustable glass shelves and interior low voltage lighting. If you rate island spaciousness on a scale from 1 to 10, this island comes in at an 11!

List any items that were outsourced (not produced by you or your shop).
Custom turnings of Rustic Knotty Alder were completed by Glacial Wood Products. The granite countertops were fabricated by StoneWorks of Colorado, the appliances were provided by Specialty Appliance of Colorado. All other aspects of this kitchen including dovetail drawers, raised panel doors, mouldings and accessories were fabricated, finished and installed by The Artisan Shop.
