Rivendell Woodworks (Concord, CA)
Main Category: Architectural Millwork
Sub Category: Creative Solution Dollar Amount: Over $25,000 Briefly describe your business and the type of products manufactured. Rivendell Woodworks, Inc. is a custom cabinet and millwork manufacturer, specializing in high-end residential cabinetry. We follow through with design, computer layouts, construction and installation of our work to ensure the highest quality end product for the discerning client. What materials/species were used in this project/item? This was a very unique project, in that all exterior parts and trims were made from Monterey Cypress, both solid wood and veneered panels, cut from the San Francisco Presidio, within a mile of this project. Interiors behind doors were built from Columbia Purebond clear acrylic finished maple plywood. Describe, in detail, the project/item’s construction. The great challenge of this project was that the entire surfaces of all four walls of this room were fully covered by our work. Going counterclockwise (as numbered in the photos), the first wall was covered by the wet bar lower and upper cabinets. The second wall had to be designed, constructed and installed to very precisely position the bookcases and bench seats in relation to the windows, whose jambs and casings were also built from Monterey Cypress by us. The third wall included the fireplace surround with adjacent bookcases and cabinetry. The fourth wall was the only wall that included just the paneling and trim work. What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry? This was primarily described in the previous entry. The room interior, between the floor and ceiling, was entirely built and installed by Rivendell from local Monterey Cypress. Design work, taking rough architect drawings and converting them to fine finished CAD drawings for cutouts and construction, was all done by Rivendell. Mouldings, trims and shaker style doors were all built by us. List any items that were outsourced (not produced by you or your shop). Only the finishing (clear conversion varnish by Baumar of San Francisco), stone countertop for the bar, the glass shelves, door pulls, electrical fixtures and the processing of the local Monterey Cypress trees into lumber and laid up veneers (by Exotic Hardwoods of Oakland CA) was done by others. Everything between the floor and the ceiling in this room, including final design refinements, cutouts, construction and installation was by us.
