What materials/species were used in this project/item?
Rustic Knotty Alder
Describe, in detail, the project/item's construction
The homeowners wanted a rustic style for their Colorado Mountain home. I wanted to achieve this by using knotty alder with a medium stain and a dark glaze. Several key features to these built-ins include wire mesh center panels, furniture-style toe kick details, barrel arch raised panels, custom turned legs and beaded molding back panels. Both units were set back from the front of stone fireplace surround, this was complimented by staggering the depths of the base cabinets. Each unit has integrated LED puck lighting controlled via remote.
What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry?
The subtle asymmetrical design of the fireplace surrounds – they have enough similarity in size, furniture, wood species and finish to stay balanced even with the difference in wire mesh doors above and below.
