Briefly describe your business and the type of products manufactured.
We design, manufacture, finish and install custom cabinetry. We use a wide variety of accessories, appliance brands and hardware. We work especially close with the client and/or designer to create a space that functions as well as creates an appealing space in the design.
What materials/species were used in this project/item?
This kitchen is a natural maple that was painted. The glass doors have polished adjustable glass shelving. The interiors are finished in a natural maple, drawers are dovetailed maple . All the drawers and doors are soft close. The finish is a post catalyzed lacquer from ML Campbell called Resistant with a Magna-claw primer. All boxes are plywood, all face frames are solid wood, doors are solid natural maple as well as the decorative mullions on the end of the island.
Describe, in detail, the project/item's construction
The cabinetry constructed with solid plywood and hardwood materials. The plywood is white birch and the face frames are maple. All the fronts are natural maple. The face frames are not only assembled with pocket screws but are also attached to the boxes with pocket screws. The Blum hinges and under mount drawer slides are soft close. The island has a false kick in the center to not only help with the support of the top but also supply a channel for the electrical requirements. All the drawer boxes are solid 5/8" maple with dovetail construction.
What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry?
Where the pantry and refrigerator begins, was an exiting closet with a door. It was removed to allow the cabinetry to extend the whole wall. The pantry and refrigerator had very rigid specifications for not only the cabinetry but the installation need to be exact for them to function properly. The freezer and refrigerator required an area for ventilation which was accomplished with a channel behind the units exiting below in the toe kick.
The island needed the look of a furniture piece and the strength to support the marble counter top. We constructed an hollow platform for the cabinetry to sit on in the middle and used the feet around the perimeter to give it support for the counter top.
The vent hood had to be constructed in a way to support the weight of the blower and attached to the wall. We used a solid 3/4" back that span the design which allowed us to mount it to the wall studs. The curved element of the hood was accomplished with a flex board product mounted on ribs with the specific arch cut out. We added ribbing on the exterior to simulate the metal hood that we were duplication.
