Describe, in detail, the project/item's construction This project was very labor intensive as no detail was left out. To compliment the beautiful cabinetry, we used custom raised panel maple doors with applied mouldings, including door panels on all of the exposed sides and gables. To continue the clean and sleek look we included fluted posts, and small columns combined with hand carved soft maple Verona Corbels with Acanthus Leaves. All of the casework was cut on a Biesse CNC and constructed using the blind dado method. The finishing includes primer and four coats of Post-cat paint for added durability and depth of colour. What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry? The hood fan canopy was quite labour intensive (it is perhaps surprising how much work went into making something that looks so simple and elegant). Also, there are a lot of lime stone elements in and around the house: starting with the 24' fireplace, to the roman columns and arches seen through-out and all the way to the stone wrapped exterior! The owner really likes the stained lime look and he wanted his cabinetry to complement the stone work around the house. We had to come up with the right blend of colours and finishes to make the symbiotic bond between masonry and millwork. How has being a member of the CMA benefited you and/or your business? We have been proud CMA members since 2013. We turn to the membership forum for advice almost every time we are facing a dilemma; chances are there is always someone that has solved the same problem we are having and everyone is so friendly and eager to help. We find the monthly networking events to be very useful and we try to attend whenever we can. There, we can tour other plants and see how other companies do things. We visit showrooms (where we can get ideas) , after which we grab a few drinks with our peers (where we can network with our industry peers). Also, the yearly Benchmark Study helps us tremendously in planning our budget, our marketing strategy and in making good management decisions. We would recommend the CMA to anyone looking to save money, save "trial-and-error-time" and gain extensive industry knowledge. List any items that were outsourced.
