Describe, in detail, the project/item's construction
All aspects of this project were completed by us. We worked diligently with the homeowner to complete the design for their dream kitchen. Bringing this design to fruition is a source of great pride as we were involved from start to finish with every aspect of the project. We framed the intricate ceiling, managed the trades and fabricated all of the cabinetry in our shop in Berryville, VA. The Maple and Hickory came to us as rough sawn lumber. We milled our own trim, fabricated our own doors, drawer fronts and drawer boxes. We went through a rigorous sanding process and finished the cabinetry in house utilizing ML Campbell pre-cat water based lacquers. Finally, we installed all of our cabinetry & millwork.
Leaving no detail forgotten, we even carefully carved the necessary outlets into the island legs creating an attractive solution to a common functional problem.
What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry?
Designing and fabricating the barreled ceiling to match the lines of the existing arched window. We opened up the opposing wall to carry the barrel feature through to the next room creating a beautiful focal point from the new dry bar. A total departure from the kitchen's original layout was necessary to achieve symmetry, function and elegance. Other design features include using oversized corbels at the range and warming up the kitchen by complementing the white cabinetry with the Hickory island and accents.
