Describe, in detail, the project/item's construction
What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry?
This special project has quite a story. We have on site woodcarver who works on custom wood carving projects. Zoya has golden hands and since she was a kid she wanted to be a woodcarver. It's truly her passion which is reflected in her work.
This icon was drawn & hand carved by Zoya and it was made as a donation to a local community which was used in an auction to raise money to help kids whose parents died in the war in Ukraine.
Because it's for kids in Ukraine she has used national Ukrainian symbol tryzub. Meaning-God put his saving hand and protect the people of Ukraine from corruption and war that is happening there.
It's a truly amazing masterpiece and I wished I could keep this exclusive piece of art because what happens next is upsetting.
Zoya has spent over 40 hours of woodcarving time working on this Ikon.
When organizers asked us what would be retail cost as well as minimum cost for the icon we told them it would be $2500 to minimum of $900
After the auction, it took a while to get a response in terms of the cost for the icon. Then a few weeks later a letter came in with a receipt for donation and it stated the icon was sold for $250 and which later turned out to one of the organizers who really like it.
It was a sad lesson to learn and see the reality that even people who are making a big show, don't truly understand the meaning of what's ethical and where in this case the boundaries have been crossed too far.
A lot of professional work was done at $6.25 per hour. Poor kids instead of at least $900 will receive $250 if even that will get there.
In any case, we are truly proud of Zoya's work and this exclusive icon and how it turned out magical.
