Describe, in detail, the project/item's construction
The homeowners live in a very modern neighborhood and wanted to bring that feel into their loft while maximizing the available space. They are art collectors and she is a gourmet cook so they needed display space and an organized kitchen. This was accomplished using High Gloss Acrylic (HGA) cabinets with Clear Walnut 3 tiered hood and open cabinets. The walnut accents help soften the HGA while providing beautiful light display for artwork and texture to the back wall of cabinets. Puck light were integrated into the bottom of the upper cabinets for task lighting and into the open display for highlighting art pieces.
All the base cabinets are custom height to accommodate the thin marble tops which also continue up the wall. To increase functionality of the space, every cabinets utilizes Blum and Hafele organizational items. The Blum stainless steel legra boxes and drawer in drawer features keep the kitchen organized while maximizing storage. The Hafele pull-outs keep everything within sight and at her fingertips.
The island features a charging station, tray storage, trash pull, dishwasher, sink and convection/microwave. The countertop is a piece of Colorado walnut with a live edge. This kitchen includes many of the current trends but it functions as the ultimate gourmet kitchen in a small space.
What is the most unusual aspect or outstanding characteristic of this entry?
The HGA end panel detail mimics the drawers on the island and Tall pantry. The Hood design is unique as the walnut is grain matched and each panel steps back. The center panel opens to give access to electrical elements of hood and puck lighting. The walnut bar top with live edge pulls together the design of HGA and walnut used in the display unit and the hood. The thin marble top and backsplash are one piece and add another interesting element that unifies the kitchen colors of charcoal, white and walnut.
