The Alphacam and Cabinet Vision solutions, by Vero Software, will be exhibited Jan. 8 at an open house hosted by Cerritos College of Norwalk, Calif., to highlight the college’s expanded CNC woodworking program.
The Alphacam computer-aided-manufacturing (CAM) system for wood, stone and metal, and the Cabinet Vision design-for-manufacturing woodworking solution will be used as teaching aids in the program, which will offer introductory and intermediate courses on both solutions.
“Vero Software remains committed to supporting our educational partners around the country,” said Richard Chappell, general manager of Cabinet Vision Global. “There is a large demand for these graduates in our marketplace, and we are proud that Alphacam and Cabinet Vision are a part of the Cerritos College curriculum for woodworking students.”
“Alphacam and Cerritos College have been working together successfully for the last seven years,” said Jessica Woodall, Alphacam sales and services director – Americas. “Continuing to provide students with the necessary software and machinery tools is crucial in preparing the next generation of professionals, who will become important contributors to the growth of the woodworking and CNC industry.”
Graduates of the program are eligible to earn a certificate in CNC Woodworking, and are able to complete the certificate in one school year.
“Local employers are sending us job openings every week, and many require woodworking knowledge and experience,” said Jeff O’Dell, adjunct instructor for the Cerritos College CNC Woodworking Program.
“Cerritos College Woodworking has designed the new certificate program to provide a well-rounded woodworking employee who knows traditional shop machinery; has the knowledge needed to design wood components in Alphacam and cabinets in Cabinet Vision; and is able to operate a variety of industrial CNC machinery, including 5-axis CNC routers.”
The open house is designed to introduce the newly expanded program, which will focus upon the design and production of 3-axis and 5-axis CNC wood products. Cerritos College now houses nine CNC routers, including two SCM Pratika nested-base CNC Routers; a Morbidelli Author M200 5-Axis Pod and Rail Router; an Anderson Stratos Nest nested-base router, and five Velox CNC routers.
“There is increasing demand for CNC and automation skills in our local wood component manufacturing industry,” O’Dell says. “Other large urban areas seem to have similar needs.”
The open house event, which will take place within the school’s woodworking facility, will feature live cutting demonstrations of nested-base cabinets, furniture parts and passage-door components.
