The Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) has announced the 2016 winners of the Standard of Excellence awards. Each winner has been featured in the AWI official journal, Design Solutions Magazine and the awards will be presented during the 2016 AWI Annual Convention in Kansas City, Missouri on October 24.
The 2016 Overall Standard of Excellence winner is Stephenson Millwork Company, Inc. located in Wilson, North Carolina for the North Carolina State University Talley Student Union Center project. This included a multi-story wooden trellis of NC State wolf mascot. University spokesperson Charlie Marshall explained the multi-story wooden trellis of the wolf "is a signature feature not only of the building, but also of the university. Extensive study between the architectural millwork company and the architect was required to develop and deploy this unique work of art. Product selection, finish, geometry, and fastening/anchoring details could not have been accomplished without Stephenson Millwork's leadership and collaboration." This project was featured in the summer 2016 issue of Design Solutions magazine. Montbleau & Associates of San Diego, California won in the corporate category for their work on the Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP Law Offices featured in the spring 2015 Design Solutions. The Standard of Excellence for the hospitality category was awarded to Allegheny Millwork for the Horseshoe Casino Caesars Entertainment in Baltimore, Maryland. AWI Supplier members Marwood, Inc. and Sieling and Jones contributed to this project featured in the winter 2015 issue of Design Solutions. The winter 2016 issue of Design Solutions featured the winner in the residential category.
