Cabinet Vision, by Vero Software, hosts successful Shop Automation Seminar at two Utah locations

Cabinet Vision, along with partners Allmoxy, Lockdowel, Advanced Machinery Systems and Stiles Machinery, recently hosted a Shop Automation Seminar and Shop Tour at two Utah-based production facilities to demonstrate how to automate multiple facets of the manufacturing process.

Nearly 200 attendees turned out to see presentations on true shop automation — from order entry and shop-floor automation with Allmoxy, to sending those jobs straight into Cabinet Vision for processing and machining on Stiles CNC machinery. Using the Lockdowel construction method for assembly, users saw how the three systems work together to save time and money.

"I was surprised at how excited the older, long-time woodworkers are about new technology. People I know to have previously criticized technology are now enthusiastic and excited to implement it into their businesses,” said Brady Lewis, founder and CEO of Allmoxy. “I think people are finally seeing the application in their business partly because they're seeing the same technologies used with great success all around them in their personal lives.”

The seminars, which took place July 19 in Kaysville and July 20 in Tremonton, included tours of the Lewis Cabinets and Trim Art production sites. By delivering in-depth overviews of how automation is used to increase efficiency from design to production, the seminar offered a firsthand, real-world look at best practices in action.

“I was pleased to see the next generation of managers embrace technology that will allow them to grow without necessarily building new buildings to do so,” said Stephen MacDonald, CEO and director, business development, of Lockdowel.

“It was inspiring to see nearly 200 local cabinet manufacturers from the greater Utah area attend an event that promotes automation and Industry 4.0 principles,” said Coby Johnson, sales manager for Advanced Machinery Systems. “Customers were able to see firsthand how software and the Homag machinery working together can streamline the manufacturing process. I thank Trim Art and Lewis Cabinet for opening their doors and demonstrating how industry 4.0 works for each of them.”

For those in search of efficiency through automation, the seminar was a one-stop shop that proved helpful for managing shops of all sizes.

“I found all of the content at this event an eye opener as to where our industry is headed,” said Don Bigelow, partner relations manager for Cabinet Vision.  “The technology in software, machinery, and hardware fasteners is here and affordable, even for the small shop.”

Lewis believes that the convenience of the digital age is influencing those once reluctant to implement new technologies in the workplace.

“They use Amazon to shop, Netflix to entertain, and Uber to get them across town. They shake their heads in wonder and have started to wish for these conveniences for their businesses,” Lewis said. “The disparity between conveniently ordering online with fax/paper is becoming greater and, the more time goes on, the less customers will tolerate the latter."
