Provide a brief overview about your business and your typical projects.
Based in Loveland, CO, Colorado Cabinet Makers is a small custom cabinet shop. The owners handle the business and design while 7 talented and dedicated woodworkers make sawdust in the shop. We do most of our own installs to keep quality control of the projects. Very little is outsourced while creating a wide variety of quality residential cabinetry and millwork.
Describe your project, what makes it unusual, and/or any outstanding characteristics.
This set of 5 Ceiling Trusses were designed and built for Barbi and Chris for the living room in their lake front home. They are completely faux trusses. They are hollow box constructed from plywood and Rustic Knotty Alder. The Architect wanted to utilize timber frame elements in the home design, but actual true timber frame trusses were going to complicate the framing process too much for the project. The main room in the home was framed with parallel cord scissor trusses. We came up with a 13-piece design for each of the 5 trusses to assembled prefinished, on sight one piece at a time. This was done after the ceiling was covered with 6” T&G Material. To put scale to the project, the top cords are 10” x 10” in size. The room is 35’ wide and 27’ tall at the peak. The joints were secured together with recessed lag bolts and timberlock screws, and then each of the 200 holes was filled with a black 1-1/4” dia. bolt and a 2” dia. washer for that massive industrial look. Everyone who comes to visit instantly imagines these trusses are holding the house up! The magic of the Cabinet Maker at work!!
