2025 Wood Diamond Award Living Spaces: Library Under $10,000 Dovetail Designs First Place

Dovetail Design is a custom cabinet shop working mostly in residential construction, both new and remodels, with some commercial work sprinkled in. In addition to cabinet making, Dovetail Design also has several decades of experience in both residential and commercial construction as well, which allows us the unique ability to recognize and solve problems much more easily. Describe your project, what makes it unusual, and/or any outstanding characteristics.

The clients asked for a bookcase & storage cabinet with the added bonus of hidden storage. Two ideas were presented for the concealed storage. One, using the popular hidden bookcase hinges, and the other, a custom pullout & rotate option which is shown here. The bookcase pulls out while simultaneously rotating before being pulled back in to reveal the storage hidden on the back side of the bookcase. This feature is completely undetectable to anyone unaware of this option. The mechanism for this was custom fabricated in house. In addition LED lighting is built in to the adjustable shelves with no exposed wiring or connectors, and even stays lit throughout the rotation. The shelves can be place in any location and light up as soon as being placed on the shelf pins. This was also custom fabricated in house.
