Designed to frame and elevate a traditional fireplace, this custom build features flanking cabinetry that mimics the look and feel of solid wood through an innovative construction method: two 3/4” panels laminated together with a 1.5” edge band for a thick, opulent profile. To ensure a flawless, uninterrupted look, the units were clamped together onsite, eliminating visible fasteners such as cams. The open-backed design allowed us to creatively conceal lighting cords by routing small grooves into the side panels, maintaining the project's clean lines. Key architectural challenges were addressed with inventive solutions. Baseboard heat on the right side required a boxed-out structure for ventilation, cleverly integrated to maintain aesthetic balance. Vertical space was restricted by an ornate tray ceiling, necessitating precise height adjustments for a cohesive installation. Perhaps most notably, the elongated proportions of the right-side unit posed material limitations. To achieve a seamless finish without visible joints, we sourced extra-long panels and meticulously laminated them to match, demonstrating an extraordinary level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. It is more than a fireplace surround—it’s a showcase of problem-solving, precision, and refined design, elevating both the room and the homeowner’s experience.
