2026 Wood Diamond Award Kitchen: Face Frame (less than 40 linear feet) Gillpatrick Woodworks First

2026 Wood Diamond Awards,

Gillpatrick Woodworks is ROOTED in the belief that woodworking can inspire emotion in the process of creation, and in the end product. We believe that happens with exceptional design, craftsmanship, and technology. Through that, we will strive to continue to build a company known for excellence in woodworking of all types, ability to solve problems, and done with integrity.

Describe your project, what makes it unusual, and/or any outstanding characteristics.

This kitchen takes a transitional approach with a strong two-tone palette built entirely from rift sawn white oak. The perimeter and upper cabinetry are left in a natural finish, while the island and base cabinetry are stained dark for contrast. We built the cabinetry as inset face frame construction with slab doors detailed with a slight moulded edge, giving the slabs a quiet sense of depth without breaking from the clean aesthetic. The natural oak runs floor-to-ceiling along the back wall, terminating in a glass-door display cabinet at the corner. A custom plaster hood anchors the cooking wall, its soft sculptural form playing against the linear millwork below. Marble counters and backsplash carry across both finishes and tie the two tones together. One of the hidden highlights is a built-in coffee bar tucked behind a pair of pocket doors, with open shelving above a dedicated counter and integrated lighting, fully concealed when not in use so the elevation reads as a continuous run of cabinetry.

List any components that were outsourced.

We built the hood but did not apply the plaster. We did not provide counter tops.
